CV

Professional Summary

I describe myself as a theatre practitioner because while I'm formally trained in performance and directing, I work and teach in multiple areas of theatre including design, stage management, and arts management.  I specifically chose my graduate program because of its commitment to pedagogical development and the chance to hone my skills as an educator.  The high quality of my work in the classroom was recognized in graduate school through student assessments and faculty teaching observations.

While at TTU, I was named a fellow in the TEACH (Teaching Effectiveness and Career enHancement) Program, a highly selective fellowship designed to prepare future educators. In my final year of graduate school, I received the Helen DeVitt Jones Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching. I've continued the habit of strong teaching after graduate school at Lees-McRae College, and now Hanover College, where I serve on the faculty and as Theatre Department chair.

As my CV shows, I'm well trained in teaching young theatre artists and give them the confidence to be successful in whichever pathway they choose to use their theatre training.  My students take their knowledge and create their own careers in professional theaters, graduate schools, and even in their own classrooms.

Experience Overview

2018-Current

Assistant Professor of Theatre | Hanover College

Hanover College is small, rural college that for nearly two centuries has been rooted in the liberal arts tradition of higher education.  I spent my first year at Hanover learning the current culture of the program and working with our chair to form both a short-term and long-term plan on improving the department’s curriculum, recruiting methodologies and the goals of the production work we complete during the academic year.  With a solid foundation to build on, the focus of my second year at Hanover was on a complete redesign of our department curriculum, with updating requirements for majors and minors.  During my third year I was named department chair.  My goals as chair include recruiting potential students, raising the quality of our productions, and reimagining our branding as a department.

2017-Current

Managing Director | Lees-McRae Summer Theatre

Lees-McRae Summer Theatre is a professional theatre company, whose summer theatre season serves the residents of the High Country of North Carolina, nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  As managing director, I over see operations of the company including hiring, scheduling, and management of the companies 150+ members.

2016-2018

Assistant Professor of Performing Arts | Lees-McRae College

Lees-McRae College is a small, private liberal arts college, located in heart of the Appalachian region.  In my time at Lees-McRae College I’ve personally redesign the performance (acting and directing) curriculum to match national standards, help foster the relationship between the Department of Theatre Arts and the community, and lead new recruiting efforts and strategies.  The quality of productions was raised significantly and was noticed at a regional level, resulting in increase in academic year patrons and local school attendance, including over 1200 students from local school districts attending the fall productions.
